Important information about visas and travel documents
Visa requirements can change. We recommend checking with the embassy or consulate of your destination country at least 4-6 weeks before travel. We're happy to assist with visa application guidance.
Stay healthy and safe during your safari adventure
Required if traveling from or transiting through endemic countries. Keep certificate with you.
Check current requirements as they may vary.
Consult your doctor about appropriate anti-malarial medication at least 4-6 weeks before travel. Common options include Malarone, Doxycycline, or Mefloquine.
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, evacuation, and trip cancellation. Ensure your policy covers safari activities and visits to remote areas.
Essential items for a comfortable and memorable safari experience
Don't wear bright white, blue, or black clothing on game drives as they can scare wildlife or attract insects (especially tsetse flies).
If flying to remote camps, soft-sided bags are required with weight limits typically around 15kg (33lbs). Check with your tour operator.
Plan your safari for optimal wildlife viewing and weather
Peak Safari Season - Best wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources.
Green Season - Beautiful landscapes and excellent birding opportunities.
July - October: Witness millions of wildebeest crossing the Mara River in the Serengeti. Book 6-12 months in advance.
June - September & December - February: Drier months are ideal for trekking. Permits required and should be booked months ahead.
November - April: Migratory birds from Europe arrive, making this prime time for birding enthusiasts across East Africa.
January - February: Southern Serengeti sees massive calving with thousands of wildebeest births daily. Predator action peaks.
Financial information for your East African adventure
US Dollars are widely accepted for tourism activities.
Bring clean, newer US dollar bills (2013 or later). Older or worn bills may not be accepted. $50 and $100 bills get better exchange rates.
Keep money in multiple secure locations. Use hotel safes when available. Avoid displaying large amounts of cash in public.
Stay safe and respect local customs during your visit
Always stay in your vehicle during game drives. Keep windows up when near dangerous animals. Follow your guide's instructions.
Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid walking alone at night. Use registered taxis or ride-sharing apps.
Drink bottled or purified water. Avoid ice in drinks. Eat at reputable restaurants and lodges.
Use hotel safes for passports and valuables. Keep copies of important documents separately.
Save local emergency contacts and your embassy information in your phone.
Greet people warmly. A handshake is common. Use titles (Mr./Mrs.) when appropriate.
Dress modestly, especially in rural areas and religious sites. Cover shoulders and knees.
Always ask permission before photographing people. Some may request payment. Respect "no photography" signs.
Be respectful during village visits. Support local businesses. Don't give money or sweets to children.
Remove shoes when entering mosques and some churches. Dress conservatively and speak quietly.
Speak softly to avoid disturbing animals and other guests. Use headphones for any devices.
Never approach wildlife on foot. Keep minimum safe distances as advised by your guide.
Never feed wild animals. It disrupts natural behavior and can be dangerous.
Wildlife moves on its own schedule. Patience is key for the best sightings.
Take all litter with you. Respect the environment and leave it as you found it.
Avoid using camera flash on night drives as it can startle animals.
